Design
The 1 oz FIFA World Cup Silver Statue depicts two soccer players rising up with their arms extended. They are seen holding up the world, which signifies the global nature of the event. Below them, there are two beautiful bands of Malachite, which contrasts quite nicely with the gold plating. Also included is a black base with the following inscription: FIFA, World Cup, Qatar 2022. Above this you will see Qatars official tournament logo, which is shaped like an 8 as a nod to the eight stadiums to be featured in the event. On the reverse of the base the statues metal, weight, finish, and height are listed.
History
The FIFA World Cup Trophy is the second trophy to be used in the history of the tournament. The first was called the Jules Rimet trophy, named after the World Cups founder. The idea behind the original trophy was that the winner would not actually keep it upon their victory, taking home a gold-plated replica instead. However, Rimet included a provision that any country that won the tournament three times could keep the authentic trophy in perpetuity. In 1970, Brazil did just that, meaning FIFA had to commission a new trophy for the 1974 tournament.
