One of the most iconic American coin designs of the 20th century was brought to life by James Earle Fraser. In 1913, Fraser created a remarkable coin design that honored the indigenous cultures in the United States. This extraordinary design now takes center stage in the United Snakes of America Series, a collection of silver rounds that exposes the decay and deceit within the federal government. Experience the allure of the 1 oz Silver Indian Skull Rounds, available for purchase at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The United Snakes of America Series serves as a powerful reminder of the moral decay and deceit present within the federal government. Fraser’s modified design for the Buffalo Nickel, which takes center stage on the obverse of this round, gained approval during President William Howard Taft’s administration (1909-1913). This period was marred by significant scandals that had a lasting impact on Taft’s presidency, making it a fitting starting point for this captivating silver round series.
Obverse
The obverse of the Indian Skull Round showcases a decaying image of an indigenous leader in right-profile relief. Fraser’s original bust design is meticulously preserved, with intricate details such as the hair and feathers, while the flesh has deteriorated, revealing the haunting skull.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the Silver Indian Skull Silver Rounds in the United Snakes of America Series, you’ll be captivated by the series collection. The design prominently features the US national shield at the core, with a larger snake emerging from the center and multiple snake heads. This imaginative twist on the traditional American bald eagle design represents a symbolic departure, evoking a sense of intrigue and symbolism in line with the series’ overarching theme.
History
One example of President Taft’s scandal-plagued administration was the Dollar Diplomacy and the Manchurian Railway. Taft’s foreign policy approach, known as “Dollar Diplomacy,” aimed to promote American economic interests abroad. However, it was marred by a scandal involving the Manchurian Railway in China. In 1911, it was revealed that American bankers had secured a loan from the Taft administration to acquire a majority stake in the Manchurian Railway. Critics accused Taft’s administration of using political influence to benefit wealthy American financiers and disregarding China’s sovereignty.
