When people think of the state of New Jersey and devils, most might have their minds immediately drawn to the NHL franchise known as the New Jersey Devils. Believe it or not, this was not a randomly chosen name for the franchise. It reflects a centuries-old belief in New Jersey that a devil-like creature actually exists in the region. Provident Metals currently offers you the 1 oz Silver Jersey Devil Round to purchase online.
When you purchase a 1 oz Silver Jersey Devil Round through this product listing, the item you receive comes with an individual protective plastic flip. The rounds with this design come with the image of a Jersey Devil and are part of the broader Cryptozoology Collection at the Intaglio Mint that focuses on mythical beasts such as the Kraken, Unicorn, and Jersey Devil.
A frightening Jersey Devil is depicted on the obverse of the 1 oz Silver Jersey Devil Round. This beast is a complex depiction of the devil and reflects some of the historic depictions recorded in American media. The Philadelphia Bulletin produced a sketch of the so-called Jersey Devil, or Leeds Devil, in 1909 that depicted a beast with the body of a horse, the front legs of a bird, the head of a goat, a long tail, and dragon-like wings. A similar version of the beast is depicted here in this design with The Jersey Devil inscribed above.
The logo of the Intaglio Mint is found on the reverse side of 1 oz Silver Jersey Devil Rounds. The mint seal uses a Roman column in the shape of an I in the center of the field with a map of the world behind the seal. This is set in the very inner field of the coin with a beaded border around it and the name of the mint. The broader background field has swirling radial lines, and you will find the weight, purity, and metal content around the outer rim. There are also date marks on these rounds listed in Roman numerals.
Said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of South Jersey, the Jersey Devil is often described with a goat-like head, leathery bat wings, horns, and clawed hands on its front legs. The beast is reported to emit a blood-curdling scream.
