While the Mares of Diomedes 1 oz Silver Round is no longer available, there is still time to order the Hercules 1 oz Silver Proof, and the 5 oz Silver Hercules Round. And don't forget to protect your investment with the Hercules Display Box and a 39mm Air-Tite Coin Holder.
About the Round:
The eighth release in the 12 Labors of Hercules Series is the Mares of Diomedes 1 oz Silver Round. This 1 ounce silver round consists of .999 Fine Silver and was produced by the Provident Mint, an IRA approved mint (ISO9001), with standards of production quality and metal purity that qualify each silver round to be included in Precious Metals IRA.
The mares -- named Deinos, Lampon, Padargos and Xanthos -- were to be captured by Hercules for his eighth labor. King Diomedes of Thrace, the owner of the mares, had trained the horses to feed on human flesh. Some stories say the stallions could breathe fire. Hercules fought and defeated the King, and fed him to the horses. He then bound each of the mares’ mouths closed and walked them back to King Eurystheus, completing his task.
The reverse of the Mares of Diomedes 1 oz Silver Round features the four mares mid gallop. Their manes flow and their mouths are agape in a display of aggression. “MARES OF DIOMEDES” and “VIII” are inscribed near the rim.
The obverse of this 1 oz silver round features Hercules clutching a wooden club and wearing the Nemean Lion on his head as armor. An inscription around his portrait reads “1 oz CMXCIX FINE SILVER.”
Each 1 oz silver round measures 39mm in diameter and ships in mint fresh condition. Individual Mares of Diomedes rounds will ship in plastic flips, quantities of 20 will ship in mint plastic tubes, and orders of 500 in a Patent Pending Provident Metals Green Monster Box.
Mares of Diomedes will be available to purchase for one month, from April 12 through May 12, 2015.
