Films of today often showcase stories of ancient civilizations. We love to see how life was lived during these crucial periods in history. One popular store is that of the last stand of King Leonidas with his powerful Spartan warriors. Leonidas and his men are now featured on a new design for the Molon Labe Collection from Intaglio Mint. Right now, you can purchase the 1 oz Silver Molon Labe Round Type II Round from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Engraved into each of these silver rounds is a statement that is attributed to Leonidas at the Battle of Thermopylae: Molon Labe. This Greek phrase translates into having come, take. Often, the translation is made smoother as the phrase come and take them or come and take it.
Obverse
The obverse of each 1 oz Silver Molon Labe Round Type II features the image of a Spartan warrior with a spear in his hand. You can easily see all of his battle garments. In the background, there is a line of Spartans ready to defend the group against the Persian army. You will notice the phrase Molon Labe on this side of the round.
Reverse
On the reverse face of these rounds is the image of the Intaglio Mint logo. It features a radial burst that emanates from the center of the round. A stippled border including various engravings sets the reverse design apart.
History
The historical design on each of these rounds dates back to ancient Greece. King Leonidas is credited with holding the massive Persian Army at bay with just 300 men, but in reality, he had around 1,500 men. While Leonidas hadnt been able to defeat the Persians, he was able to delay the Persian forces for three days to give the Greek forces more time to prepare.
