The Indiana Pacers were founded in 1967 as one of the original teams of the American Basketball Association (ABA). Their name honors Indianas harness racing pacers and the pace car tradition of the Indianapolis 500. The team dominated the ABA with three championships before joining the NBA in 1976. History
The Pacers brought a championship pedigree to the NBA after winning three ABA titles in 1970, 1972, and 1973. They have since maintained a strong basketball tradition and loyal fanbase in Indianapolis, with Gainbridge Fieldhouse serving as their home since 1999.
