Obverse

On the obverse side of Silver Norse God Series Hel Rounds is a depiction of the Goddess of Death seated upon her throne. Hel is the daughter of Loki and was cast down into Helheim by Odin, who along with the other gods of Asgard was suspicious of Hel and her siblings. It was her duty to oversee the world of the dead. Into her realm, she would receive all of the mortals who died of sickness and old age. The design element includes a visual of Hel on her throne with a gathering of lifeless souls behind her. The inscriptions read Hel and Goddess of Death.

Reverse

The reverse face of 1 oz Silver Norse God Series Hel Rounds features a Valkyrie. The Valkyrie were warrior maidens chosen by Odin to ride in the skies above the battles of mankind. Together with Odin, these female warriors would decide who lived and who died. Those who met an honorable, valiant end in battle would be scooped up by the Valkyrie and escorted to Valhalla. This special hall in Asgard was a place where fallen heroes could feast, drink, and fight for eternity. The inscriptions on this side include Valkryie, Chooser of the Slain, and 1 Ounce .999 Fine Silver.

History

The new offerings of the Norse God Series continue an already-popular design concept from the Anonymous Mint. Each of the five Norse deities designed for this series comes from artwork created by Howard David Johnson, an American illustrator and painter. His works typically focus on historical, religious, and mythological concepts.
