Loki is one of the five deities to feature in the Norse God Series of silver rounds from the Anonymous Mint. The series was created by lead coin designer Julie Lindquist, with each of the deity designs developed by Howard David Johnson and brought to life in brilliant relief by Italian Master Sculptor Luigi Badia. Right now, you can buy 1 oz Silver Norse God Series Loki Rounds online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the 1 oz Silver Norse God Series Loki Round in this listing, you receive a specimen that is housed inside of an individual protective plastic capsule. The gold-plated silver rounds of this collection are available with a thin application of 24-karat gold. This gold is applied only to select design elements on the surface of the silver round and creates a visual contrast between the design element and its background field.
Obverse
The obverse field of 1 oz Silver Norse God Series Loki Rounds comes with a depiction of the God of Mischief. With a natural setting from Scandinavia in the background, Loki stands with a staff in his left hand and a fish near his feet. Loki was said to have the power to shapeshift and would use it to transform into various different figures. One of the most common figures he would shapeshift into was a fish. Inscriptions on this face of the silver round include Loki and God of Mischief.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 1 oz Silver Norse God Series Loki Round is an image of a rider from the Valkyrie. These powerful female warriors were hand-selected by Odin to serve as the Choosers of the Slain. The Valkyrie rode on powerful steeds through the clouds while mankind fought battles below. The Valkyrie determined who lived and who died, and selected only the valiantly slain to join Odin in Valhalla, his great hall in Asgard. The inscriptions on this face of the round read Valkyrie, Chooser of the Slain, and 1 Ounce .999 Fine Silver.
History
Loki had a contentious relationship with other gods in Norse mythology. Though he loved creating chaos among the gods, the worst thing he did was bring about the death of Balder, the God of Light. The other gods punished him for this by bounding him in a cave where venom dripped on his face. Each time the venom hit him, he would shake and twist violently, causing the whole of the Earth to feel the vibrations. Norse mythology used this to explain earthquakes.
