With a natural setting from Scandinavia in the background, Loki stands with a staff in his left hand and a fish near his feet. Loki was said to have the power to shapeshift and would use it to transform into various different figures. One of the most common figures he would shapeshift into was a fish. History

Loki had a contentious relationship with other gods in Norse mythology. Though he loved creating chaos among the gods, the worst thing he did was bring about the death of Balder, the God of Light. The other gods punished him for this by bounding him in a cave where venom dripped on his face. Each time the venom hit him, he would shake and twist violently, causing the whole of the Earth to feel the vibrations. Norse mythology used this to explain earthquakes.
