The Kraken is one of the oldest and most-written about mythical creatures from human history. First recorded more than 800 years ago in the written record, the Kraken actually has a history that dates back to antiquity. The Norse travelers of the 13th century recorded in written word encounters with a cephalopod-like beast in the North Sea between Scandinavia, the British Isles, and Iceland that could destroy entire boats with ease. Even though it is likely the work of overactive imaginations, the Kraken was nonetheless feared for the next 700 years. Right now, you can purchase 1 oz Silver Proof-like Kraken Rounds online at Provident Metals.
With your purchase of the 1 oz Silver Proof-like Kraken Round in this Provident Metals listing comes a protective plastic capsule from the mint. The rounds are limited in number to just 3,000 in total with a unique serial number assigned to each round and inscribed on the edge of the rounds.
On the obverse of the 1 oz Silver Proof-like Kraken Round is the image of the powerful beast emerging from the seas to envelop a Viking longship. Norse written records were the first to record such a beast, with Vikings traversing the North Sea between Scandinavia and Iceland talking of encounters with a beast that hand tentacles longer than the average Viking longboat and a massive body. The beast could reportedly envelop an entire ship with its tentacles and splinter the wood with ease.
The reverse face of the 1 oz Silver Proof-like Krake Rounds includes the image of the Anonymous Mint owl logo. A clever riff on the US heraldic eagle, the owl in this design is front-facing design clutches three arrows in its talons and has a crown with the Anonymous Mints AM initials on its head. Above the owl is a cluster of 13 stars arranged, from top to bottom, in rows of six, four, and three stars.
For hundreds of years, the Kraken was so feared by merchants and navies alike that depictions of the beast were marked on navigational maps to warn seafarers of the dangers the Kraken posed in certain waters. Maps created as recently as the 16th and 17th centuries still depicted a Kraken in the North Sea and the South Pacific.
