From 2016 through 2021, The Royal Mint released a special Collection honoring the role of heraldic beasts in British history. Known as the Queens Beast Collection, the series featured 10 historic animals representing royal heritage, with each design inspired by figures tied to the reign of King Henry VIII. These 1 oz Silver Queens Beast Completer Bars are individually packaged in protective vinyl sleeves. The design celebrates the full Queens Beast coin series by bringing all ten legendary animals together on the obverse of the bar. The 1 oz silver version has the highest mintage of the series, with other sizes like 1 oz gold and 10 oz silver also available.
Obverse
The obverse side of the Silver Queens Beast Completer Bar features a design by Jody Clark, depicting a circle of the ten beasts surrounding Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait of the Queen at the center was originally created in 1952 by Mary Gillick and was the first official effigy used on British coins. The beasts include the Lion of England, Griffin of Edward III, Falcon of the Plantagenets, Black Bull of Clarence, Yale of Beaufort, White Lion of Mortimer, White Greyhound of Richmond, Red Dragon of Wales, Unicorn of Scotland, and White Horse of Hanover.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 1 oz Silver Queens Beast Completer Bar, youll see a detailed guilloche background. Set in the middle is The Royal Mints emblem. Additional inscriptions include the bars weight, purity, and silver content. Inscriptions include 1 OZ, 999.9, and FINE SILVER.
History
In 1953, during the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, ten large heraldic statues stood at the entrance of Westminster Abbey. These symbolic creatures, known as the Queens Beasts, represented different aspects of the monarchs ancestry and ties to various noble families throughout history.
