As humans took the high seas in centuries past, sailors and warriors alike found themselves confronting new challenges exploring the world. Some of those challenges were mental ones that tested the knowledge of older civilizations. Sailors had a habit of spinning a great tale of wondrous beasts lurking in the depths. Chief among those to strike fear in a sailors heart was the Kraken. Right now, you can buy the 1 oz Silver The Kraken Round online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The 1 oz Silver The Kraken Round in this product listing comes to you with an individual plastic flip. These rounds come from the Intaglio Mint and are part of the broader Cryptozoology Collection of silver round designs from the mint.
Obverse
The obverse side of each 1 oz Silver The Kraken Round depicts the mythical beast emerging from the depths of the ocean to attack an unsuspecting wooden sailing vessel. The tentacles of the beast are wrapped around the ship and it has no chance of escaping the grasp of the beast. The masts have been broken and the sails tattered as a handful of sailors try to make an escape in a dingy launched from the other side of the ship. In the distance, you can see that another vessel is sailing off hoping not to be the next victim of the Kraken.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 1 oz Silver The Kraken Rounds is the Intaglio Mint logo in the center. This design features an I-shaped Roman column with a background map of the world behind it. The words Intaglio Mint are around it with a beaded border. The primary background field has swirling radial lines. The outer rim has inscriptions of the weight, purity, and metal content of the round. The date marks for the designs are listed in Roman numerals.
History
The first accounts of the Kraken in written legend come from Norse sagas that speak of a massive cephalopod beast that terrorized sailors traveling in the North Atlantic between Norway and Greenland.
