Established in 1946 under the direction of Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Chester Nimitz, the Blue Angels are the United States Navys elite flight demonstration squadron. Their formation was intended to keep the public engaged with naval aviation following World War II. Today, the Blue Angels are recognized for their extraordinary flying skills and precise aerial maneuvers. Now, 1 oz United States Navy Blue Angels Rounds are available online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1 oz United States Navy Blue Angels Rounds is available in protective plastic. These rounds serve as a tribute to the skill and legacy of the Blue Angels.
Obverse
The obverse of the United States Navy Blue Angels Round showcases the emblem worn by the Navy Blue Angels. The emblem is divided diagonally, with the upper-right section displaying four F/A-18 aircraft silhouettes in formation against a cloud-filled sky. The lower-left portion includes the Naval Air Training Command insignia, featuring the Navys eagle-and-anchor logo with an aircraft carrier silhouette in the background. Inscriptions on this side include BLUE ANGELS.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1 oz United States Navy Blue Angels Round, four F/A-18 Super Hornets are depicted in flight. The jets are shown breaking formation, leaving distinct smoke trails as they execute a precision maneuver. Inscriptions here read UNITED STATES NAVY, ONE OUNCE, 999 FINE SILVER, and BLUE ANGELS.
History
Originally flying the Grumman F6F Hellcat, the Blue Angels quickly transitioned to aircraft such as the F8F Bearcat, F-9 Cougar, and F-11 Tiger. Today, they operate the F/A-18 Super Hornet, a modern fighter jet that continues to impress audiences around the world. For over 70 years, the Blue Angels have thrilled more than 500 million spectators with their high-speed aerial performances, highlighting both the pilots expertise and the capabilities of naval aviation.
