Obverse

The seal in use in the mid-19^th century, this design features a Mexican golden eagle in front-facing relief. The eagles wings are spread as it clutches a prickly pear cactus with its talons and holds a serpent in its beak. There is a small lake beneath the cactus. The inscriptions on this side include a date mark at the bottom and an inscription of REPUBLIC MEXICANA overhead.

Reverse
