US half dollar coins have been produced by the United States Mint since 1794. This denomination remains in circulation today, unlike many of the original gold and silver coins first introduced by the mint. For most of its history, the half dollar coin had 90% silver content. Previous circulation denominations are prized by collectors for the historic designs and also offer investors an easy and affordable way to start investing in silver. Provident Metals currently has $10 Face Value bags of 90% Silver Half Dollars available to purchase online.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a bag containing 20 half dollar silver coins!
  • 90% silver half dollars issued from 1794 to 1964!
  • Contains .365 Troy oz of actual silver per coin.
  • Issued individual face values of $.50 (USD) per coin by the government of the United States.
  • Obverse and reverse designs vary by date mark and design program.
  • Please keep in mind it is possible to receive several different date marks and designs within this bag of 90% silver half dollars.

When you purchase the $10 Face Value 90% Silver Half Dollar bag of coins in this listing, you will receive a total of 20 individual half-dollar coins. The coins in this bag add up to a total of $10 (USD) in face value. The coins are guaranteed to be dated between 1794 and 1964 as this is the only time period in which US half dollars had 90% silver content. It is most likely you will receive half dollars from the late-19th and 20th centuries.

Obverse

Possible obverse designs in the US half-dollar series include the Barber Coinage bust of Liberty, the Walking Liberty design, the Benjamin Franklin design, and the Kennedy Half Dollar. The Kennedy Half Dollar, though the most recent issue, was only available in 90% silver for one year in its 1964 debut. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar design from Adolph A. Weinman was the longest-used design among these options as it was in production from 1916 to 1947.

Reverse

Each of the reverse designs of the 90% Silver Half Dollars varies by the design program as well. For example, the Walking Liberty Half Dollars have the image of an American bald eagle resting on a cliff edge clutching a small sapling. The Kennedy Half Dollar has a modified Presidential Seal with the heraldic eagle of the United States included.

History

US Half Dollars were produced with 90% silver and 10% copper in the metallic content through 1964. Beginning in 1965, the half dollar was issued with 40% silver and 60% copper instead through 1970 while all other denominations were produced from 1965 onward with no silver and a cupro-nickel alloy.

Ordering

Please note that this bag contains varying date marks. We cannot guarantee the date marks and designs you will receive, only that the coins will total $10 (USD).
