The reverse face of the 90% Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar bears an image of the American bald eagle. This design also came from Weinman in 1916 and depicts the American bald eagle resting on a cliffside perch with a small sapling between its talons.

History

The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was designed by Adolph A. Weinman as one of two Liberty designs he created and submitted to the United States Mint in 1916. The designs were submitted as possible replacements for the unpopular Barber Coinage designs on the dime, quarter, and half dollar. While Walking Liberty was chosen for the half dollar, his Winged Liberty design was chosen for the dime.
