Of the three US coin denominations still in production today that feature the same design from the era of 90% silver coining, the Washington Quarter is the oldest. The Kennedy Half Dollar was the last one introduced, arriving in 1964 in the final year for 90% silver coining. The Roosevelt Dime is slightly older having debuted in 1946. Right now, you can buy 90% Washington Silver Quarters.

Highlights:

  • Arrive with protective plastic containing 40 coins!
  • Featured 90% silver from 1932 to 1964!
  • Contains .18084 Troy oz of actual silver per coin.
  • Bears individual face values of $.25 (USD) fully backed by the US government.
  • On the obverse side is a bust of President George Washington.
  • The reverse features the American bald eagle.

Your purchase of $10 Face Value 90% Washington Silver Quarters arrives with protective plastic containing 40 quarters in all. Each of the quarters is guaranteed to feature a date mark between 1932 and 1964 as these are the only years in the Washington Quarter series that feature the 90% silver 10% copper metal alloy.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the coin is a bust of President George Washington in left-profile relief. The image was created in 1932 by John Flanagan and has featured on the US quarter every year since 1932. The modern quarters have a modified design of this portrait, but it is still based on the 1932 Flanagan work.

Reverse

The reverse of 90% Washington Silver Quarters includes a depiction of the American bald eagle. Here, the eagle is perched on a fasces of arrows with its wings spread wide. Two olive branches are intertwined below the fasces and inscriptions read United States of America, Quarter Dollar, and E Pluribus Unum.

History

To mark the 200th anniversary of Washingtons birth, Congress originally planned to put his bust on the half-dollar coin only in 1932 in place of the standard Walking Liberty design. Instead, Congress opted to retire the Standing Liberty design on the quarter and replace it permanently with a bust of George Washington. This design remains in circulation on the coins today, while the reverse eagle was used through 1998. The 1975-1976 coins had a drummer boy from the Continental Army on the reverse in honor of the nations 200th birthday and the modern coins have State Quarter designs, but these issues are not part of the 90% silver era.
