The 19th century gave the world some of its most beautiful gold coin designs. From the United States to Europe, those designs are still around today on remaining circulation pieces and as the face of modern bullion coins struck by sovereign mints for investors and collectors. Among those coins, you will find the Francs-Florin gold coins of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Today, you have the opportunity to get 10 Francs-4 Florin Austrian Gold Coins online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The Austrian Mint issued the historical version and the modern bullion version of the 10 Francs-4 Florin Gold Coins with the same gold composition. The coins feature a metallic alloy of gold and copper, with 90% gold content and 10% copper. The original coins were issued from 1870 to 1892, while the modern gold bullion coins have been issued since the 1970s with a date mark on all coins of 1892.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 10 Francs-4 Florin Austrian Gold Coins is a bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The longest-reigning Emperor of Austria, for much of his reign he held the dual titles of Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary with the formation of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The right-profile portrait of Joseph I on this side comes with a wreath crown on his head, a beaded, notched border, and inscriptions in Latin that identify him as Franz Joseph I and Emperor and King.
Reverse
The reverse field of the 10 Francs-4 Florin Austrian Gold Coins comes with a depiction of the Austro-Hungarian Empire coat of arms. The design shows a double-headed eagle clutching a sword and scepter. The design is inspired by the seal of the House of Habsburg, the dynasty that ruled the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
History
The Austrian Mint issued the 10 Francs-4 Florin coin alongside a 20 Francs-8 Florin coin upon its admission to the Latin Monetary Union. The LMU established standards for gold currency on the continent. The coins were issued by Austria largely as a trade coin, with the face value of 10 Francs accepted throughout the LMU states, but the Florin denomination the preferred value within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Most of the coins available these days are the restrikes the Austrian Mint began issuing in the 1970s, all of which have 1892 date marks.
