History

Queen Wilhelmina reigned as Queen of the Netherlands from 1890 until 1948 when she abdicated the crown due to declining health. Wilhelmina was the first female monarch of the Netherlands and enjoyed the longest reign at 58 years in total. She came to the throne in 1890 at the age of 10 and was formally inaugurated in 1898 upon her 18^th birthday. 10 Guilder Gold Coins issued with her effigy were struck from 1897 to 1933, making the coins one of the last circulating gold pieces in Europe.
