Designs

On the obverse and reverse fields of these 100 oz Copper Bars, you will find various different designs possible. Most copper bars are produced as cast items that have inscriptions stamped only on the obverse. These inscriptions typically identify the mint of origin, weight, purity, and metal content for the bar. The reverse is typically blank, but may show various textures or striations that result from the production process. Please note that any images attached to this listing are for visual purposes only and do not necessarily represent bars available at any given time.

History

Copper has long been used in the production of coins. In the United States, the earliest gold coins issued starting in 1794 had copper alloyed into the metallic composition of the coins to ensure greater durability in circulation. By the 1830s, US gold and silver coins in circulation had 90% gold or 90% silver, with 10% copper in the alloy for durability. Modern US coinage also has copper as a part of the various alloys used in different denominations.
