In 1817, William Wyon produced the Three Graces, which was his first great engraving for the Royal Mint. While the design never found its way into circulation, it is still celebrated today as the work that propelled Wyon into the spotlight. In celebration, a commemorative design of Wyons original is now featured on the latest release in the Royal Mints ambitious The Great Engravers Collection. Right now, you can get 100 oz Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Three Graces Silver Bars online at Provident Metals.
Each 100 oz Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Three Graces Bar in this online Provident Metals listing will arrive in protective boxes, with multiples of six bars in individual boxes within a Monster Box. These bars consist of .9999 pure silver and have been produced by the prestigious Royal Mint.
The obverse side of 100 oz Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Silver Bars features the Three Graces. These beautiful deities are depicted here side by side dressed in gowns with laurels in their hair. A ribbon is shown wrapped among their arms, and behind them, you will find Greek Doric columns and rays of light.
On the reverse face of Great Britain The Great Engravers Collection Three Graces Silver Bars is the Royal Mint seal. This design is followed by hallmarks reading THE ROYAL MINT 100 OZ 999.9 FINE SILVER. The aesthetic quality of the reverse is then enhanced by a stunning meander pattern filling up the entire background.
When William Wyon began his apprenticeship at the Royal Mint, he stood in the shadows of a giant, the famed Italian engraver Benedetto Pistrucci. Pistrucci had recently moved to England but was facing criticism for his work in a new line of 1816 coin designs. Wyon saw an opportunity to advance his career and put all of his efforts into creating The Three Graces. The project was self-funded and never went into circulation, yet today is recognized as the genesis of his acclaimed career.
