Design

History

If you watch the Star Wars films chronologically, Darth Vader first appears as Anakin Skywalker in the 1999 film the Phantom Menace. In this movie, he is just a boy and is played by child actor Jake Lloyd. As a teenager and young man, Anakin is portrayed by Hayden Christensen in the films Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

Anakin became Darth Vader at the very end of that trilogy and is shown receiving his iconic black suit in the final moments of Revenge of the Sith. Darth Vader then appears as the central antagonist in the films A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. He also makes a brief but memorable cameo appearance in the 2016 Star Wars spinoff Rogue One.
