When the SS Central America sank off the coast of the Carolinas in September 1857, it set off an economic panic that reverberated across the United States and North America, with its reach even impacting the international economy. With 30,000 pounds of gold onboard, the SS Central America was swamped during a hurricane and went down with all of its gold. In 1988, the site was finally discovered and the gold was recovered. Provident Metals now has 1857 SS Central America Gold Double Pinch available to you online.

History
The naming of this product is no mistake. The term gold pinch refers to the tradition of miners paying for drinks in saloons and speakeasies in the American West. Though the miners were out in search of gold and riches all day, most of these men were likely short on hard currency. When they came to town, the miners would often pay for a double shot of liquor with two pinches of gold flake from their packs.
As far as the SS Central America is concerned, its sinking was devastating to the American economy. The ship was the second of two ships transporting gold from the California Gold Rush from San Francisco to Panama to New York City. The banks in New York City were expecting the gold, and the fact that it never made it sent shockwaves through America.
