Obverse
On the obverse of the 1858-O Seated Liberty Half Dollar Coin, Liberty is seated on a rock, holding a staff with a Phrygian cap.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1858 Seated Liberty Half Dollar Silver Coin displays a heraldic eagle with the US national shield, arrows of war, and an olive branch. An O mint mark is located beneath the eagle’s talons.
History
The Seated Liberty design saw greater use across American currency in the 19th century than any other design. Not only was it used on the Half Dime, Dime, Quarter, Half Dollar, and Dollar, but it was used on the Dime, Quarter, and Half Dollar from 1836 to 1891. The Half Dime and Dollar were suspended in 1873, ending the use of Seated Liberty on those denominations.
