The smallest denomination offered in the Confederate States dollar banknote series was the 50-cent note. Not introduced until 1863, the notes were issued a second and final time in 1864 with the same design from the 1863 note, but were produced by a different duo from a Richmond-based lithographic company. Right now, you can buy uncirculated 1864 50 Cents Confederate Currency Notes online at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with an individual protective currency sleeve!
  • 2nd series for the 50-cent Confederate States dollar banknote!
  • Issued as part of the 7th and final series of Confederate States notes!
  • Bears a value of 50 cents issued by the Confederate States.
  • President Jefferson Davis is on the obverse.
  • Blank field on the reverse.

With your purchase of the 1864 50 Cents Confederate Currency Notes in this listing at Provident Metals, you will receive an individual protective currency sleeve to house the note. The notes here are available in uncirculated condition. A paper note in this condition lacks any fold lines, but will show minor signs of circulation use, off-center designs, and the possibility for margins that stray into the design field.

Obverse

President Jefferson Davis is found on the obverse of the 1864 50 Cents Confederate Currency Notes. This vignette of the first and only President of the Confederate States of America captures the leader in right-profile relief.

Reverse

A blank field is featured in the reverse design of the 1864 50 Cents Confederate Currency Note. The reverse field of many Confederate States dollar notes was left blank on purpose. While the Confederacy used detailed obverse images, the reverse side of the notes was typically left blank or given very simple denomination prints. You may notice the ink of the serial number on this side having bled through from the obverse.

History

The 50-cent note was introduced by the Confederacy through legislation in 1863. It was first produced by Archer & Daly in the 6th series of notes, with these 1864 notes representing the last issue of the 50-cent note as produced by Archer & Halpin. Most Confederate notes were very different from one another as Treasury signatures were often done by hand, serial numbers were stamped on by hand, and the notes were even cut from larger sheets by hand, resulting in uneven edges.
