The 1878-S Morgan Dollar Silver Coins proudly bear the “S” mint mark, denoting their origin from the San Francisco Mint. The San Francisco Mint holds a prominent place in the coin’s history. In 1878, it struck nearly 10 million Morgan Silver Dollars, making it the third-highest production year for these coins. Over the years, the San Francisco Mint has contributed to the striking of more than 131 million Morgan Dollar Silver Coins.
