The Morgan Silver Dollar remains a favorite among US coin collectors, valued for its link to American history and its classic design. First produced in the late 1800s, the series reflects a period of rapid industrial growth and silver mining. Today, 1879-S Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in Mint State condition are available through Provident Metals.

  • Coin arrives in a protective plastic slab!
  • 2nd year of production for the Morgan Silver Dollar series!
  • Final mintage of 9,110,000 coins at San Francisco!
  • Limited number of certified coins available!
  • Contains .7734 troy oz of actual silver content.
  • Issued a face value of $1 (USD) by the United States.
  • Bears a Grade of Mint State 66 from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Grade authenticated by the Certified Acceptance Corporation (CAC).
  • Features Lady Liberty on the obverse.
  • Includes the heraldic eagle on the reverse.
  • Comes with an S mint mark from the San Francisco Mint.

Each 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coin comes sealed in a protective slab with an NGC Mint State 66 certification. These coins offer strong luster and only a few small marks, sometimes in key focal points. Light hairlines might exist but typically require magnification to notice. A CAC sticker confirms the NGC grading.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1879-S Morgan Dollar Coin showcases George T. Morgans portrait of Liberty. Facing left, Liberty wears a Phrygian cap as well as a laurel wreath and a coronet, symbols tied to freedom and honor. The inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1879.

Reverse

On the reverse of 1879-S Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, Morgans heraldic eagle design appears. The bald eagle spreads its wings wide, holding arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, illustrating Americas strength and desire for peace. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the S mint mark.

History

The year 1879 was important for silver production in the United States. The Comstock Lode in Nevada continued to deliver high output, while new strikes in Colorados Leadville district boosted mining activity even further. Advances in extraction and transportation opened new resources and added to the national conversation about silvers economic role.
