Morgan Dollar Silver Coins from the legendary GSA Hoard were made available through government auctions starting in the 1970s. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase an 1880-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin from the GSA Hoard, graded MS63 by the NGC. Out of the 495,000 coins originally minted, only 131,500 were part of this historic hoard. Secure yours now at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1880-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is housed in a protective plastic slab from the NGC. These coins are graded as Mint State 63, indicating impaired mint luster with several small contact marks and possibly one or two larger marks and small hairlines.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1880-CC Morgan Dollar Coin showcases George T. Morgans elegant depiction of Lady Liberty. She is presented in left-profile relief, adorned with a coronet crown, and surrounded by 13 stars. Inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1880.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1880-CC Dollar Silver Coin features a majestic heraldic eagle, also designed by George T. Morgan. The eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons, with surrounding inscriptions identifying the coin. Inscriptions include ONE DOLLAR, IN GOD WE TRUST, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
History
The GSA Hoard refers to the nearly $3 million worth of Morgan Silver Dollars found in U.S. Treasury vaults. These coins were stored to redeem Silver Certificates. The GSA audit discovered Silver Dollars minted from 1878 to 1891, most featuring the Carson City mint mark.
