During its run in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Morgan Silver Dollar was struck at five different branches of the United States Mint. In this listing, we are excited to offer an 1881 edition struck at the historic New Orleans branch. This is indicated on the coin by a mintmark on the reverse field. Right now, you can get 1881-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins online from Provident Metals in certified condition.

History
When he set out to design the nations new Silver Dollar, George T. Morgan was not interested in simply mimicking the work of his predecessors. Rather than turning to myth and history, Morgan sought to design a distinctly American coin that felt both modern and timeless. For his Lady Liberty portrait, he enlisted the aid of Anna Williams, a school teacher from Philadelphia. Morgan called her profile the finest hed ever seen. The resulting effigy is considered his greatest achievement.
