Introduced in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar Coin is one of the most admired silver dollar designs in U.S. history. Created by George T. Morgan, the Morgan Dollar series was struck from 1878 to 1904, with a final release in 1921. Right now, the 1881-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coin is available at Provident Metals.

Obverse
The obverse of 1881-S Morgan Dollar Coins features the iconic image of Lady Liberty in left-profile relief, designed by George T. Morgan. Liberty is crowned with a Phrygian cap and a coronet crown, adorned with a laurel wreath. Surrounding her are 13 stars, representing the original U.S. colonies. The inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1881.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 1881-S Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is the heraldic eagle, with wings spread wide, holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The eagle is encircled by a wreath of oak and laurel. Inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the S mint mark.
History
The 1881-S Morgan Silver Dollar was struck at the San Francisco Mint, which produced 12,760,000 coins, the highest total for any branch mint in 1881. Additionally, production took place at the Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Carson City mints.
