Reverse

On the reverse of the Morgan Silver Dollar Coin, theres a bald eagle motif. This design presents the eagle with arrows and an olive branch as it looks left with wide open wings. The reverse also includes the San Francisco mintmark along with inscriptions across the edge reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR.

History

The San Francisco branch of the U.S. Mint officially opened its doors in 1854. Initially, the mint was established to facilitate production needs during the California Gold Rush (1848-1855). In its first year alone, the mint managed to turn four million dollars worth of gold bullion into coins. The original site for the mint proved too small and by 1874 another building, known today as Old San Francisco Mint, opened. Then in 1937, a 3rd site was built, which remains the location for the San Francisco branch to this day.
