One of the best ways to assemble a quality coin collection is to be on the lookout for coins with certified grading provided by a trusted coin dealer. One of the companies that provides that kind of grading for the American Numismatics Association (ANA) is the Numismatics Guaranty Company (NGC), which was founded in 1987 and has become a trusted name in the marketplace in the process of grading more than 55 million coins. Among the most well-represented among those coins is the GSA Morgan silver dollar, which has been one of the most popular collectibles on the market since the discovery of a vast and previously-untapped hoard in the Treasury vaults in the Sixties. The 1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coin is now available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
This 1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coin comes labeled to indicate its certified NGC grade of MS63, which identifies it as rather appealing to the eye, with contact marks and hairline scratches that may occur in prime fields of focus. Provident Metals ships this classic collectible in a protective plastic slab and fully insures each shipment against any possibility of loss or damage.
Obverse
The coin’s obverse side features Lady Liberty in effigy along with the inscriptions “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “1882,” with thirteen decorative stars at the rim for each one of the Union’s founding states.
Reverse
The reverse side features a heraldic eagle clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, along with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
History
A surge in demand for silver dollars took place in the United States starting in 1958 and reached a fever pitch around 1964, leading unintentionally to the discovery of a number of uncirculated coins with rare and valuable dates, some of which were still in their original mint bags. Further investigation led to the uncovering of three million Government Service Agency-issued Morgan Silver Dollars, a kind of coin that had previously been among the rarest in the world. These coins, auctioned by the government in the Seventies and early Eighties, would reshape the collector’s market and remain in demand to this day.
