Obverse

On the front face of the 1882 Morgan Silver Dollar, you will encounter a left-facing profile of Liberty. This representation presents Liberty wearing both a coronet and laurel wreath, surrounded by a ring of 13 stars that encircle the design field. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1882.

Reverse

George T. Morgan’s design for the reverse of the 1882-CC Morgan Dollars exhibits a heraldic eagle. Unlike his other portrayal, this rendition of the heraldic eagle does not incorporate the US national shield. Inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark.

History

The Carson City Mint is known for its distinctive “CC” mint mark, which was stamped on the coins it produced. The mint mark was a way to identify the origin of the coins and distinguish them from those minted in other branches. Today, coins with the “CC” mint mark are highly sought after by collectors due to their historical significance.
