First released in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar became one of the most famous and longest-running silver dollar designs in US history. Designed by George T. Morgan, who served as Assistant Engraver for the US Mint, this coin marked the revival of silver dollar production after a five-year break. Right now, 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in certified condition are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin offered here is certified in Mint State 65 condition. Coins with this grade show strong mint luster with only minor contact marks and no major flaws in the main focal areas. The overall look and quality of an MS65 coin are considered very appealing to collectors.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Coin features George T. Morgans left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap symbolizing freedom, along with a laurel wreath and a coronet. Surrounding her are 13 stars representing the original colonies. The inscriptions here read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1882.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin displays Morgans version of the heraldic eagle. The bald eagle appears without the traditional national shield, holding the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other. Inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the CC mint mark.
History
The Carson City Mint struck 1,133,000 Morgan Silver Dollars in 1882, marking one of its better production totals. Each piece carries the CC mint mark that identifies its origin. These coins were made during the height of the Comstock Lodes operation, a major source of silver for the Mint. The 1882-CC issue remains popular among those who collect Carson City pieces and stands as a great example of the mints craftsmanship.
