A bust of Lady Liberty is found on the obverse of this Morgan Silver Dollar Coin. This legendary portrait from George Morgan presents Ms. Liberty in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap atop her head. She also dons a crown of wheat and a headband inscribed with LIBERTY. Additional inscriptions on the obverse read 1882, E PLURIBUS UNUM.

An American bald eagle features on the reverse of 1882 Morgan Silver Dollars. This rendition of Americas national bird was also designed by Mr. Morgan. For added visual appeal, a pair of decorative laurels surround the bird as it flies with open wings. Reverse inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, IN GOD WE TRUST.

Prior to his move to the United States, George T. Morgan worked at the Royal Mint of England. He was quite respected there, but eventually relocated to the U.S. to further his career. Hired by the U.S. Mint as assistant engraver under William Barber, Morgan set to work on a new Silver Dollar design. The coin was first struck in March of 1878 and was soon mass-produced across the nation. Morgans legacy was sealed and in 1917 he was promoted as the mints 7th Chief Engraver.
