This detailed image shows Liberty wearing a coronet, a laurel wreath, and a Phrygian cap, surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies, along with the year of issue. Inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1882, and LIBERTY.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1882-S Morgan Dollar Silver Coin, youll find the heraldic eagle in front-facing relief. This bald eagle, clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons, reflects both strength and peace. The S mint mark signifies its origin from the San Francisco Mint. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the S mint mark.
History
In 1882, the Morgan Silver Dollar was produced in large numbers by several US Mint branches, including Philadelphia, Carson City, New Orleans, and San Francisco. San Francisco’s output was 9.25 million coins, marking its significant contribution to that year’s mintage.
