The obverse of the 1883-O Morgan Dollar Silver Coin boasts a unique portrayal of Lady Liberty, crafted by George T. Morgan. Inspired by Anna Williams, a Philadelphia schoolteacher, Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies. Inscriptions include 1883, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and LIBERTY.

On the reverse side, you’ll find George T. Morgan’s distinctive heraldic eagle design, capturing the eagle just about to take flight. It clutches a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing both strength and peace. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and IN GOD WE TRUST.

George T. Morgan, the designer, and namesake of these coins, went on to become the 7th Chief Engraver of the US Mint. Although Morgan Dollar Silver Coins made their debut in 1878, production at the New Orleans Mint began in 1879. This historic mint continued to strike these coins until 1904, making them a valuable piece of American numismatic history.
