Founded in 1870, the Carson City Mint was set up to refine and strike coins using silver and gold mined from Nevadas Comstock Lode. This saved time and reduced the risks and expenses of shipping the raw metals to distant facilities. Morgan Silver Dollars with the CC mintmark were produced between 1878 and 1885 and again from 1889 to 1893. These historic coins are known for their connection to the Old West and their limited mintages. Certified 1884-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are now available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 1884-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are offered in certified MS62 condition. Coins with this grade display slightly dulled luster with areas of small marks and a few larger ones. Some fine scratches or hairlines may also be visible.
Obverse
On the obverse of 1884-CC Morgan Dollar Coins, youll see George T. Morgans depiction of Lady Liberty. Her profile faces left and features long, flowing hair beneath a Phrygian cap. A crown inscribed with Liberty and a laurel wreath completes the design. Thirteen stars sit near the bottom rim, a tribute to the original colonies. The inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1884.
Reverse
The reverse of 1884-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins includes Morgans heraldic eagle. This version of the design shows a bald eagle with its wings outstretched. It holds arrows in one claw and an olive branch in the other, representing a combination of strength and peace. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark.
History
Due to changes in funding, politics, and silver demand, the Carson City Mint operated off and on over the years. It officially closed in 1893 but left behind a legacy through the many coins it produced, including silver and gold issues proudly marked with the CC mintmark.
