One of the most well-known coins in the bullion world is the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin. These coins were designed by George T. Morgan and were the first standard silver dollar minted since the passage of the Coinage Act of 1873. Now, you have the opportunity to own a certified coin from this esteemed collection. Provident Metals is thrilled to offer you the 1885 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin, available now for purchase.
Highlights:
Each 1885 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin will arrive in a protective plastic slab from the PCGS. Notably, these coins were given a grade of Mint State 63 by the Professional Coin Grading Service, one of the most trusted names in the coin-grading industry. MS63 coins showcase impaired mint luster, scattered contact marks, a few heavier contact marks, and small patches of hairlines.
Obverse
The obverse side of each 1885 Morgan Silver Coin features the depiction of Lady Liberty. This depiction of Liberty is in left-profile relief. Liberty is donning a Phrygian cap. A Philadelphia school teacher, Anna Williams, served as the model for this design. Inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1885.
Reverse
The reverse field of the 1885 Dollar Silver Coin was also created by George T. Morgan. This heraldic eagle features the bald eagle in front-facing relief, looking to its left, about to take off. The eagle is clutching an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and IN GOD WE TRUST.
History
Morgan Dollar Silver Coins were introduced in 1878. They were released annually until 1904. The coin program made a one-year comeback in 1921, and then again in 2021. Coins in this series lacking a mint mark, like this one, indicate that it was produced at the Philadelphia Mint. In total, over 300 million of these coins have been produced at the Philadelphia Mint.
