Obverse

The obverse of the 1887 Morgan Dollar Coin features Lady Liberty, a design by George T. Morgan first introduced in 1878. Liberty is shown in left-profile relief, wearing a Phrygian cap, a coronet crown, and a laurel wreath. The coin also features 13 stars surrounding her, which represent the original U.S. states. The inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1887.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 1887 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin, you will see the heraldic eagle, which is one of the most enduring symbols of America. The eagle is shown with its wings outstretched, grasping an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other. It is encircled by a wreath of oak and laurel, symbolizing peace and strength. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.

History

Minted primarily at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1887 Morgan Silver Dollar has a total mintage of 20,290,000 coins. Other mints, including the San Francisco and New Orleans mints, also produced the coin, but in smaller numbers.
