Introducing the remarkable 1887 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin, designed by and named after George T. Morgan. These coins hold a special place in history as the first standard silver dollar after the Coinage Act of 1873. At Provident Metals, we are thrilled to offer you the chance to own this certified MS65 coin from this iconic series.
Highlights:
Each 1887 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is presented in a protective PCGS plastic slab, bearing an MS65 grade. These coins showcase attractive, high-quality luster with only a few small, scattered contact marks or two larger marks. One or two small patches of hairlines may also be present. All coins were graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
Obverse
The obverse of this 1887 Dollar Silver Coin features Lady Liberty, inspired by Philadelphia school teacher Anna Williams. Liberty graces the coin with her timeless beauty and a Phrygian cap. Inscriptions include E PLURBIUS UNUM, 1887, and LIBERTY.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1887 Dollar Silver Coin, a majestic heraldic eagle takes center stage, poised for flight, clutching an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
Morgan Dollar Silver Coins without a mint mark hail from the Philadelphia Mint, contributing to the series’ rich history. Over 300 million of these coins were struck here, out of the 650 million in total across the series. Released annually from 1878 to 1904, they briefly returned in 1921 and once again in 2021.
