The Morgan Silver Dollar was officially introduced by the United States Mint in 1878, designed by George T. Morgan. This iconic coin was struck every year until 1904, with one last minting in 1921. It has served as a significant form of currency during pivotal moments in American history, including the Reconstruction Era and the exciting Roaring Twenties. Right now, you can find 1888 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available from Provident Metals.

Obverse
On the obverse of the 1888 Morgan Dollar, you will find a detailed left-profile relief of Lady Liberty. This representation was inspired by Anna Willes Williams. Liberty is portrayed wearing a Phrygian cap, along with a laurel wreath and a coronet crown, surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies. Inscriptions on this side read LIBERTY, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1888.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1888 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin features a striking heraldic eagle, depicted in a front-facing position without a national shield. The eagle displays its wings spread wide, grasping arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, symbolizing its dual role in both war and peace. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
In the year 1888, the Philadelphia Mint led the production of Morgan Dollars, striking a total of 19.183 million coins. The New Orleans Mint followed with a mintage of 12.150 million coins, while the Carson City Mint did not produce any coins that year. San Francisco added an additional 657,000 coins to the total.
