Lady Liberty is found on the obverse of these 1888-S Morgan Silver Dollars. In this iconic design, we see her facing left and wearing both a crown of wheat and a Phrygian cap. The effigy is credited to George T. Morgan, with Anna Williams serving as a model for the design. Inscriptions on the obverse read 1888, E PLURIBUS UNUM.

A heraldic eagle motif features on the reverse of these Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. If you look closely, you will see arrows and an olive branch in the birds talons. Historically, these have been symbols of Americas wars and the peace she strives for. You will see inscriptions also reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR.

The Redfield Hoard was discovered by the heirs of LaVere Redfield at his home near Reno, Nevada. Redfield lived a colorful life that included enormous financial success as well as a stint in prison for tax evasion. Ultimately, he died of a heart attack in 1974 with a fortune estimated at nearly $50 million (despite a historic burglary in his home in 1952 that was believed to be the largest in US history at the time). The Redfield Hoard consisted mainly of Morgan and Peace dollars, which were auctioned off in 1976 for $7.3 million. Those in the best condition were then placed in special holders by Paramount International Coin Corp.
