The 1889-CC Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the better-known scarce issues in the Morgan series, prized for its limited supply and Carson City background. Minted in Nevada at a facility closely tied to Americas silver boom, this coin came from a year when production was especially low. Only 350,000 pieces were released, keeping collector demand strong more than a century later. The combination of historical setting and small mintage makes this date an important pickup in certified form. At the moment, certified 1889-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are offered through Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1889-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin listed here arrives in a plastic slab with a VF20 grade. Coins at this level show moderate wear from circulation, but not enough to hide the major features. The lettering is readable, the central design is intact, and the overall look reflects honest age while still holding solid detail for the grade.
Obverse
The obverse of 1889-CC Morgan Dollar Coins features a portrait of Lady Liberty facing left. George T. Morgan created this design in 1878, showing Liberty with a Phrygian cap, laurel wreath, and coronet crown. The style is clean and balanced, making it one of the most recognizable US coin portraits. The inscriptions here include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1889.
Reverse
On the reverse of 1889-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, the heraldic eagle takes center stage. Also designed by Morgan, the eagle is shown front-facing with wings spread, holding arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. The CC mint mark beneath the wreath confirms its Carson City origin. Inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark.
History
In 1889, the US economy was growing quickly through industry and transportation, though financial disagreements were becoming louder. Rail lines, steel, and factory output were expanding across the country. At the same time, many rural Americans and silver mining advocates worried the gold standard was shrinking the money supply and pushing prices lower. These pressures increased political division and were part of the backdrop leading to the Populist movement.
