As the 1880s came to a close, the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin experienced one of its highest single-year mintages, rivaling even its one-time issue in 1921. Leading the charge in striking these coins, the Philadelphia Mint minted the highest number of coins throughout the 1880-1889 decade. Now, you have the opportunity to purchase certified 1889 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.

  • Contains .7734 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • Carries a face value of $1 (USD) by the United States.

  • The reverse side showcases the majestic heraldic eagle.

In addition to Morgan Dollars from the Philadelphia Mint in 1889, the branch mints at San Francisco, New Orleans, and Carson City also contributed to production. Notably, the Carson City Mint, returning after a three-year hiatus from 1886 to 1888, issued a modest 350,000 coins.

The captivating obverse design of the 1889 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin showcases a left-profile bust of Liberty. Created by George T. Morgan, this artistic representation portrays Liberty donning a Phrygian cap, adorned with a coronet crown and a laurel wreath in her hair. Inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1889.

The reverse side of the 1889 Morgan Dollar Coins features the powerful heraldic eagle. Also designed by Morgan, this captivating depiction presents a bald eagle facing forward, wings outstretched as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. The inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.

Also happening in the world at this time was the Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair) was held in Paris, France. To commemorate this event, the United States built a 1/3-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which was constructed in New York City’s Central Park. It stood at 1,000 feet tall and was made entirely of lathes covered in staff, a mixture of plaster and cement.

These 1889 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin are graded Mint State 63, showcasing impaired mint luster with numerous small contact marks and scattered heavy marks. Additionally, there may be slight hairlines and detracting scuffs.
