The 1890 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin struck at the Carson City Mint was one of the most important in the series. This particular date is notable for two factors related to its mintage. First and foremost, it was the highest-minted date from the Carson City Mint with a total of more than 2.3 million coins issued. Secondly, it is one of the least represented coins surviving today from the Morgan Dollars of the Carson City Mint. Provident Metals currently has 1890-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available to you for purchase online in certified condition.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a protective plastic slab courtesy of the PCGS!
  • 10th coin from the Morgan Dollar Silver Coins of the Carson City Mint!
  • Initial mintage of 2,309,041 silver coins!

When you purchase an 1890-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that earned a Mint State 62 certification from the PCGS. These coins showcase mint luster that is impaired, with flaws ranging from small clusters of contact marks to one or two heavier marks, all of which could feature in and out of the primary focal fields. It is also possible for the coins to showcase small patches of hairlines.

Obverse

Liberty is on the obverse side of 1890-CC Morgan Dollar Coins. This design was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan and features a portrait of Liberty in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap on her head, as well as a coronet crown and laurel wreath. Other elements of the design include 13 stars and the inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY on the coronet, and the date mark of 1890.

Reverse

A heraldic eagle is featured in the reverse design of the 1890-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. This was also created by Morgan in 1878, with the bald eagle shown in front-facing relief as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The field includes a wreath of oak and laurel that frames the eagle, and comes with inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint.

History

The 1890-CC Morgan Dollar may have had the highest mintage among the coins issued at the Nevada-based mint in the 19th century, but it is one of the harder dates to find in the 21st century. When a hoard of CC-Morgan Dollars was discovered within Treasury vaults in the 1960s, just 3,949 1890-CC Morgan Dollars were found within the hoard of coins.
