The Carson City Mint is well-known for its unique contribution to the Morgan Silver Dollar’s history. When the coin was first introduced in 1878, it was one of the first three branch mints to strike this iconic coin. Over the years, the Carson City Mint produced the Morgan Dollar in 13 out of the 28 years it was minted. Currently, you can purchase 1891-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1891-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is sold with a protective flip to maintain its quality. If you purchase multiple coins, they will be shipped in plastic tubes, with each tube containing 20 coins, if available. All coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1891-CC Morgan Dollar Coin, you will find a bust of Lady Liberty. This design displays Liberty in left-profile relief, adorned with a Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a coronet crown. The design is framed by a ring of 13 stars, which pay homage to the original American Colonies. Inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1891.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1891-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin features the heraldic eagle. This image, designed by George T. Morgan, portrays the bald eagle in a front-facing position with its wings outstretched. The eagle’s talons clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark.
History
Opened in 1870, the Carson City Mint was established to utilize the silver resources from nearby mines in Nevada. The mint contributed to the Morgan Dollar’s production by striking coins from 1878 until 1885. After a brief hiatus from 1886 to 1888, the mint resumed striking coins from 1889 to 1893 before ceasing operations altogether.
