Among Americas most enduring coin designs, the Morgan Silver Dollar holds a meaningful place in US Mint history. First introduced in 1878 under the guidance of the United States Mint, it was designed by George T. Morgan, who was then serving as Assistant Engraver. Its release ended a five-year gap in silver dollar production. Now, collectors can find 1892 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in certified condition available online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 1892 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins hold a Mint State 62 grade. MS62 coins show some impairments to luster with noticeable marks or nicks in the main focal areas. A few scattered hairlines or one concentrated patch of them may be present, but the overall visual appeal remains decent.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1892 Morgan Dollar Coin features Lady Liberty in left-profile relief, first created by Morgan in 1878. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap symbolizing freedom, along with a laurel wreath and coronet crown. Thirteen stars appear around her portrait, representing the founding colonies. The inscriptions here include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1892.
Reverse
On the reverse of 1892 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, Morgans heraldic eagle design is displayed. The bald eagle grasps arrows and an olive branch, representing the balance between readiness for war and hope for peace. Unlike some later coin designs, this version does not include the national shield. Inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and IN GOD WE TRUST.
History
In 1892, the US Mint produced about 6.3 million Morgan Dollars across several locations. The New Orleans Mint led with nearly 3 million coins, while Carson City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco each struck over 1 million pieces. This was a stable production year before changing market conditions began to impact mintages, leaving 1892 coins as accessible pieces for collectors today, though certain mint marks remain more valuable.
