The $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin was an important part of U.S. currency for many years, minted by the United States Mint from 1838 until 1907. These gold coins were widely circulated until 1933, when they were pulled from use. Today, the 1893 edition is highly sought after, especially in certified condition. Right now, 1893 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins are available in certified condition at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each of these 1893 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins has been graded Mint State 63 by either PCGS or NGC. Coins in this grade exhibit good luster, though there may be small contact marks, heavier marks, and some hairlines across the surface.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the 1893 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin, youll find a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty, designed by Christian Gobrecht. Liberty is wearing a coronet crown, and she is surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies. The year of issue, 1893, is placed below her image. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 1893.
Reverse
The reverse design of 1893 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins features a powerful bald eagle with a shield on its chest, holding arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. This imagery symbolizes the nation’s readiness for war and its desire for peace. As part of the Type II design, a banner with the motto “In God We Trust” is located above the eagle. The inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TEN D.
History
This particular 1893 issue was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, which produced over 1.8 million of these coins that year. While other mints like Carson City produced fewer coins, with just 14,000 struck before the mint’s closure, Philadelphia remained the largest producer.
