The Silver Certificate Series was issued by the United States Treasury between 1878 and 1964. The release of Silver Certificates came in response to the agitation of the American public at the Fourth Coinage Acts halt to free silver coining. While Silver Certificates were produced for nearly a century, arguably the most memorable were the Educational Series notes issued in 1896. Right now, you can buy 1896 $1 Silver Certificate Educational Series Notes online from Provident Metals in Very Fine condition.
