History
Minted from 1879 to 1904 at the New Orleans Mint, the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin carries a special place in American coinage history. With a total mintage of just over 186 million at the New Orleans Mint, these coins mark the transition from the free coinage of silver as governed by the Coinage Act of 1873. Both the obverse and reverse sides of these coins were masterfully crafted by the talented George T. Morgan, former Assistant Engraver.
